About

Chiconkey is a place for everyone, but is geared to be a safe place for people of mixed backgrounds to share common experiences and create a common language for the unique world(s) we live in.  We are the in-between people who navigate through cultures, languages, stereotypes, barriers, and wide open doors that people who are of one ethnicity or culture might not.

My name is Ginger.  I’m 36, married to the most supportive and wonderful man ever, and have one smart, adorable five-year old son.  I have created this space because I know that I am not alone in the way that I feel, and in the things I have experienced from being a Chiconkey.  I have been searching for a place for us, and although I have found some wonderful places and people like Tracy Lopez of Latinaish.com, I haven’t found what I’m looking for.  So, I’m creating it.  As I get to know more about this whole blogging thing, and get to know you, readers, I will add and share more and more.

I have talked with many people over the years about my experiences and how they have shaped my life.  Some have been extremely supportive, and some whom I expected to be supportive said I shouldn’t do this because it only creates more devisiveness and barriers.  I can’t listen to them anymore.  All I can do is tell the truth about my own life.  I hope this helps you tell the truth about yours.

Honored to be mentioned here Ginger, though not at all necessary. We all take inspiration from the world around us and I’m just happy that I got to pay forward what so many have done for me.

Felicidades on your new space to be yourself, express yourself, discover yourself, and to find like-minded individuals who you will surely touch and inspire by simply telling your stories and sharing whatever weighs on your heart.

Feel free to contact me any time as you figure out this blogging thing.

    Buena suerte!

I can’t wait to see what this blog becomes! I’m not mixed race but my kids are, and I’m always interested to hear from adults about their experience. I was also interested to see that you’re from the same general area that I am (Southwest Colorado). I thought your description of the Hispanic culture in that area was perfect. It’s true, unless you know it, it’s hard to describe.
